R. Thomas et Cj. Cahill, Successful defibrillation in profound hypothermia (core body temperature 25.6 degrees C), RESUSCITAT, 47(3), 2000, pp. 317-320
We report a case of successful defibrillation in a severely hypothermic pat
ient with a core body temperature of 25.6 degreesC as measured oesophageall
y. Ventricular fibrillation is a recognised life threatening arrhythmia in
severely hypothermic patients. The traditional wisdom is that this arrhythm
ia is refractory to defibrillation at temperatures below 28 degreesC. (C) 2
