Fragmentation under electron impact of trimethylsiloxytrichlorogermane and
its silicon analog, 1,1,1-trimethyl-3,3,3-trichlorodisiloxane, proceeds sim
ilarly. Bis(trimethylsiloxy)dichlorogermane under the action of electron im
pact undergoes rearrangement into 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexamethyl-3,3-dichloro-1-ger
matrisiloxane; the strongest peak in its spectrum belongs to the rearranged
ion Me3Ge+. Tris(trimethylsiloxy)chlorogermane and tetrakis(trimethylsilox
y)germane behave similarly and rearrange into the corresponding linear 1-ge
rmasiloxanes. The principal fragment ions in the spectra of these compounds
are Me3Ge+ and methylsiloxanyl cations.
