Abstract
The synthesis of a new constitutionally unsymmetric, configurationally stab le (since 7-membered) biaryl lactone is described. Among several 'redox-neu tral' and reductive coupling methods tested, only the Ni(0)-mediated intram olecular ring closure of suitably substituted dihalogen esters gave 7-membe red biaryl lactones.
