Abstract
Synthesis of C-alkyl and functionalised C-alkyl glycosides is achieved by d esulphurisation of the corresponding thiophene glycosides, wherein 'thiophe ne' is utilised as a masked four-carbon synthon, Thiophene glycosides in tu rn were prepared from the corresponding sugar lactols.
