Abstract
Life is short, do what you love. That's the recurring theme throughout the profiles in this article. These f olks-like you, perhaps-have reinvented their work lives at least once in th e past 12 months because they wanted to, not because they had to. Such as E ric Watson, who broke out of a 21-year career to test his personal and prof essional limits in a completely new venue. Galagan, editor-in-chief of ASTD Magazines, and T&D vibes editor Salopek we re women on a mission. They sought out people who are doing things a bit-or a lot-differently and went to talk with them. T&D calls these finds Traini ng's New Guard 2000. What qualifies someone as New Guard? One way is through characteristics ide ntified by Development Dimensions International, which designed a self-asse ssment included in the article. The common qualities of such innovators inc lude a finding common ground where there seems to be none championing projects tha t violate the status quo breaking boundaries keeping abreast of trends pioneering new approaches or technology n maintaining a positive spirit. There will be a panel discussion featuring Training New Guard 2000 members at the ASTD 2000 International Conference & Exposition in Dallas, Wednesday , May 24.
