Abstract
In complex technical applications high material resistances against fatigue , wear, and corrosion are required at the same time. This has given rise to the idea of combined or duplex processes. A promising approach is the comb ination of carburizing, CVD-coating, and quench hardening. Composite materi als with invariant strength- and hardness-gradients from the interface to t he core and high surface hardness are achieved. The supporting effect of th e case-hardened substrate leads to an increase in wear resistance under hig h surface contact pressures and an increased material resistance strength a gainst heavy loads.
