Abstract
Aluminum matrix Al/Ti composite is a promising material for use in vehicles . In the present work, pure aluminum foils 92 mum thick and pure titanium f oils of three thicknesses were alternately multilayered and then pressed at high pressure at room temperature to fabricate aluminum matrix Al/Ti compo sites of three volume fractions by cold pressure welding. Joining of the mu ltilayered aluminum and titanium foils is achieved by the subdivision of ti tanium foils having lower deformation ability into many flakes during compr essing. Both the tensile and bending strength in the longitudinal direction of titanium flakes in the composites fabricated increase about linearly wi th increasing volume fraction.
