India is fast emerging as an important global player in the casting sector
of metallurgical industry. This is mainly due to the stringent pollution co
ntrol standards in the developed countries and the exponential growth in au
tomobile and machine tool sectors within the country. There is also a growi
ng awareness regarding pollution control levels in India in recent times an
d this is perceived as a threat to the existence of these small-scale found
ry units scattered in various parts of the country. Attempt has been made t
o carry out research and development work on developing an eco-friendly cok
eless cupola and also a gas cleaning plant for coke based cupola of Various
modules/sizes ranging from 2 to 20 ton/ ha. This paper discusses the resul
ts obtained from techno-economic analysis and pollution management of coke
based dry gas cleaning plant, wet gas cleaning plant and cokeless cupola. (
