Abstract
An isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography method for the analysis of phenolic aldehydes, ketones and acids produced from the alkaline oxidat ion of lignin by CuO is described. The validated method was used for quanti tation of lignin degradation phenols in a sediment core (450 cm) of the Inf ernao Lake (an oxbow lake of the Moji-Guacu River, Sao Paulo, Brazil) to re construct paleoenvironmental changes responsible for the formation of this lake.
