The use of discarded peanut meal for fattening pigs

The addition of 10% discarded peanuts in full concentrate diets significant ly increased average daily gain (803 g vs 736 g- control) in growing gilts (from approximately 50 to 96 kg BW, Polish White breed). Also, feed efficie ncy was lower (3.2 kg/kg BW) in these pigs in comparison with the control g roup (3.6 kg/kg BW). Although, backfat thickness increased (approx. 3 mm), the muscling was 3% lower in pigs fed the peanut supplement.
