Abstract
The oxidation of heterocycles 5a,b, or 9 containing a methyl-enediphosphane unit, with hexafluoroacetone does not lead to the expected dioxaphospholan e heterocycles, but yields unstable carbodiphosphoranes 6a,b or ylide 10 re spectively, which then react easily with HFA to give the stable intermediat e products 7a,b or 11 of the Wittig reaction.
