Ultrafine Ag2Se powders were synthesized by a sonochemical reaction between
AgNO3 and Se in ethylenediamine under ambient conditions. The samples were
characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron mic
roscope (TEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). XRD patterns sh
owed that the low-temperature beta -phase Ag2Se was obtained. TEM images in
dicated a flake-like shape for the Ag2Se particles. By the sonochemical pro
cess, the composition of as-obtained product was in control. The influence
of ultrasound and solvent is discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All
