Abstract
The substitution of up to 7 at. % of gold into icosahedral Al62Cu25.5Fe32.5 , quasicrystals has been investigated by Au-197 and Fe-57 Mossbauer spectro scopy. Gold was found to replace copper on BC1 sites and to hybridise stron gly with its Al neighbours. In addition, particularly at the higher Sold co ncentrations, the precipitation of small amounts of AuAl2 and beta -FeAl wa s observed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
