Under the catalytic action of ZrFe1.4Cr0.6, magnesium was hydrided into nan
ostructured MgH2 and gamma -MgH2 directly by reaction ball-milling. The for
mation and decomposition behaviors of the hydrided phases were characterize
d by X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis (TGA and DSC). The hydrided pha
ses thus formed possess excellent dehydriding kinetics. Based on the calcul
ation of local activation energy, the decomposition mechanism of the hydrid
ed phases was probed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
