Garnet-filled polyurethane foam composite was prepared by solvent-free reac
tion. Density, hardness, and compression strength were measured to study it
s basic physical properties. Percent volume loss and arithmetical mean surf
ace roughness were investigated as an abrasion property to determine its po
tentiality as an abrasive and establish a relationship between basic proper
ties and abrasion properties. These properties were measured as functions o
f blowing agent content, and garnet was used as filler. The particle size o
f the garnet and the polyol mixing ratio mere also changed to investigate t
he dependence of properties on formulation. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc
