Abstract
This study analyzes choice of academic major for different racial groups. W hile Asian Americans choose different majors than non-Asians, differences i n factors affecting choice of major occur between European Americans and Af rican, Hispanic, and Native Americans. Academic preparation, private school s, and maternal influence are areas of disparate influence for different ra cial categories.
