Abstract
UV/Vis-spectroscopic control of the photolysis of 3,6-diphenyl-1,2-dithiine shows formation of the corresponding thiophene derivative and elemental su lfur. The spin-forbidden sulfur extrusion can be influenced by addition of elemental sulfur or appropriate electrophiles, but also with cyanide ions. A dark reaction could be observed leading to partial regeneration of the st arting 1,2-dithiine.
