Abstract
To expedite the fabrication of reinforcement cages of columns, a new config uration of transverse reinforcement with four C-shape ties for columns was proposed. In this paper, to evaluate the effect of such a configuration on the seismic performance of the column, nine reinforced concrete columns wit h a cross-section of 400 x 400 mm were tested. It was found from the test r esults that the new configuration of transverse reinforcement has better se ismic performance than that usually used in design. The models for the stre ss-strain relationship of confined concrete found in the literature were al so examined by the tests. It was found that the model of Mander et al. prov ides the best predictions.
