Plastic deformation propel-ties of icosahedral Al-Pd-Mn single quasicrystal
s have been measured over a wide range of temperature in constant strain ra
te experiments including stress relaxation tests. The properties are differ
ent in the low and high-temperature ranges. At low temperatures, the deform
ation is controlled by the lattice friction of the gliding dislocations and
a very effective work-hardening mechanism. At high temperatures, the defor
mation properties are discussed in terms of recovery-controled plastic defo
rmation. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Ail rights reserved.
