Abstract
A physical displacement across a slip plane or a domain boundary may be res olved into a sequence of phason flips which restore the nearest neighbour c onfigurations and the tile forms of the original quasicrystal. The number o r density of required new vertices is correlated with the square of the imp lied internal space component of the physical shift. Examples are shown whi ch are relevant to domain boundary widths and the ease of progress of physi cal slip in the relevant quasicrystal. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All r ights reserved.
