Abstract
Mode-I transient responses of a piezoelectric ceramic strip containing a ce nter-situated crack under the in-plane mechanical and electrical impacts ar e investigated based on integral transforms and the singular integral equat ion techniques. Numerical results reveal the great dependence of crack exte nsion on both the loading combination and the ratio of crack length to stri p width. It can be expected that the crack extension may be retarded by adj usting the loading combination parameter for a certain ratio of crack lengt h to strip width. In addition, numerical results also indicate that the int rinsic mechanical-electrical coupling effects play more important roles in the dynamic fracture analysis of the inplane problem than in the anti-plane case.
