Abstract
Range profiles have been used for the purpose of target identification. A n ew R-SAR (reverse-synthetic aperture radar) algorithm is introduced here fo r the purpose of suppressing the clutters contained in the range profiles. The clutter-suppressed range profiles, called image-based range profiles, p rovide a significantly improved target recognition performance when compare d with conventional systems which use raw range profiles contaminated with clutters. The experimental results with three kinds of model targets show t hat there is an improvement of about 15-56% in the matching score, and this will lead to a considerable improvement in the recognition rate for any ta rget recognition algorithm.
