Abstract
The Cantor distribution of dielectric layers has recently found application in the design of guided-wave optical or microwave filters. In addition to the conventional fractal descriptors, we use the lacunarity of fractal filt ers as a new design parameter. Varying the lacunarity allows one to minimiz e the passband insertion loss of Cantor filters. (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons , Inc.
