Medline-LINK - a linksystem for integrating search and procurement of liter
ature
Meanwhile there are many commercial and even some non-commercial database p
roducers and services which use the facilities of the WWW. They offer their
databases with the standard components connecting the search results by hy
perlinks to electronic fulltexts, connecting them to other databases or cat
alogues or ordering online a single article in a local library or the Subit
o system. Medline-LINK here shows the same facilities by connecting search
results with locally available electronic journals or with library catalogu
es. In addition to that, an automatic function is integrated to fill in an
order form. The linking system bases on javascript, and there I have found
an easy but hitherto unknown method to paste the whole list of results of a
database (50 to 200 titles) into the textarea field of a form. After that
it is possible to handle it with javascript. Medline-LINK applies this link
ing system to the very efficient database PubMed which is free in the inter
net. The E-journals the University Library Regensburg has bought for member
s and in addition a lot of Elsevier journals are the main resources availab
le in this test version. The connection from the result list to the locatio
ns of journals of the BVB or GBV is supported by the ISSN number which is s
ought while the program is running. The function of automatically ordering
articles is demonstrated. The online interlibrary loan form of the Universi
ty Library Regensburg is taken as an example.
