The sorption behavior of aqueous Pu(IV) on brucite (Mg(OH)(2)) in the prese
nce and absence of citrate was investigated by a combination of wet chemica
l batch sorption experiments and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). So
rption occurs rapidly at near 100% levels from pH 8 to pH 13, and is not af
fected by the presence of citrate. XPS results indicate that Pu was incorpo
rated in the subsurface in the cases studied.
