A 13-year-old spaniel dog developped superficial necrolytic dermatitis asso
ciated to a liver cirrhosis probably secondary to a long lasting treatment
with phenobarbital. The dog was lethargic. Skin lesions occured in footpads
and then in the muzzle and periocular zone. Laboratory evaluation showed n
ormal glycemia, elevations in activity of liver enzymes and microcytic, hyp
ochromic anemia. Histologically, lesions confirmed hepatocutaneous syndrome
. Clinical, hematological and histopathological aspects are discussed.
