The temperature dependence of the heat capacity of 4,4'-bipyridine in the r
ange 5-330 K was studied in an adiabatic vacuum calorimeter with an accurac
y of similar to0.2%. The energy of burning of 4,4'-bipyridine at 298.15 K w
as measured in a calorimeter with an isothermic shell and a static bomb wit
h an accuracy of 0.02%. The thermodynamic functions H-0(T)-H-0(0), S-0(T),
and G(0)(T)-H-0(0) were calculated for the range 0-330 K, as well as the st
andard enthalpy of burning Delta H-b(0), the enthalpy Delta H-f(0), the ent
ropy Delta S-f(0), the Gibbs energy Delta (f)G(0), and the logarithm of the
thermodynamic equilibrium constant log Kf of 4,4'-bipyridine formation fro
m simple substances at 298.15 K and standard pressure.
