Rl. Davidovich et al., Synthesis and crystal structure of beta-alaninium ethylenediaminetetraacetatobismuthate(III) monohydrate, RUSS J IN C, 45(12), 2000, pp. 1822-1826
A salt of bismuth(III) ethylenediaminetetraacetate with a protonated cation
of amino acid beta -alanine as a counterion [(NH3CH2CH2COOH)Bi(Edta).H2O]
was synthesized and its crystal structure was established. The structure co
nsists of NH3CH2CH2COOH+ cations and discrete dimeric complex anions [Bi(Ed
ta)(H2O)](2)(2-) linked in a three-dimensional framework through hydrogen b
onds. A new structural type of complex ethylenediaminetetraacetatobismuthat
e(III) anions, namely the discrete dimeric complex anion [Bi(Edta)(H2O)](2)
(2-) containing an H2O molecule coordinated to the bismuth atom, was reveal
ed. The complex anions are linked in dimers via bridging bonds between the
Bi atoms and the chelating oxygen atoms of the adjacent complexes.
