The gender of many birds can not be determined by morphological charac
teristics. Many bird-owners have therefore problems to select the righ
t animals for bleeding. The conventional method to differentiate betwe
en males and females is the surgical sexing technique of laparoscopy w
hich requires an anesthesia and causes considerable stress, Now, there
is a novel method which makes bird sexing very safe, accurate and eas
y, It is a DNA-based process and needs only a feather or some drops of
blood. Unlike surgical sexing it can be used independently of age and
size of the bird, The results are usually available within 5 days.
