The changes in helium leak rates with pressure and temperature from helium-
cooled magnet vessels into insulating vacuum were measured. The leak rates
increased by three orders of magnitude when the vessels were cooled from am
bient temperature to 4.5 K. The changes in leak rates were found to be smal
ler than those of a Viscous flow through a capillary tube. (C) 2001 Elsevie
