This article describes an automated environmental control system for insect
production that can be operated from a remote location. The system uses tw
o personal computers connected via a mail server, temperature and humidity
sensors, a recorder, signal conversion interfaces, and a control program de
signed by the authors to monitor and control the temperature and humidity i
nside a silkworm rearing room. The operation of this system was verified us
ing an actual silkworm rearing room. Using this system, optimal temperature
and humidity conditions were automatically set according to a predetermine
d schedule. In addition, real-time temperature and humidity values inside a
nd outside of the rearing room were displayed on the remote monitor.
