Abstract
Controlled hydrothermal growth on an ultrasonically-anchored nanocrystal pr ecursor layer has provided a route to coherent zeolite A membranes on sinte red stainless steel supports. High water selectivity is demonstrated in mea surements of fluxes through the membrane using 80-98 mass % ethanol/water m ixtures at temperatures of 25-60 degreesC. The use of the hydrophobic/hydro philic properties of molecular sieve zeolites to separate alcohol water mix tures is discussed.
