COLLOIDS AND SURFACES A-PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND ENGINEERING ASPECTS
A novel amphiphile 2.1-dihydroxy-N-octadecylbenzylideneamine (abbreviated a
s SEC18) bearing a schiff base moiety as headgroup, and its complex Bis(2,3
-dihydroxy-N- o ctadecylbenzylideneaminato) Copper(II) (abbreviated as Cu(S
BC18)(2)) were synthesized successfully. The pi -A isotherms were conducted
to explore their monolayer behavior. The pi -A isotherm of an SBC18 monola
yer shows that an orientational change may be accompanied by increase of in
tramolecular hydrogen bonds in the plateau-like region, which were further
confirmed by FTIR and UV-Vis spectroscopic results. By Comparison the plate
au-like region disappeared in TC-A isotherms of surface film and subphase f
ilm of Cu (SBC18)(2) which may be due to coordination of Cu2+ to SBC18 elim
inating conversion of intermolecular to intramolecular hydrogen bonds. (C)
