The synthesis and study of oil-soluble metal carbonate colloids is a contin
uing area of interest within the field of lubricant additives. The acid neu
tralisation properties of these species have been studied for several years
. More recently, the introduction of exhaust gas circulation (EGR) systems
to combustion engines has increased demands upon the acid neutralisation pe
rformance of these additives. This has prompted a resurgence of interest in
