Abstract
We used a Vitek custom card to detect cefpodoxime MIC of - 2 mg/L as a scre en for extended-spectrum beta -lactamase (ESBL) production in E. coli and K lebsiella spp.. Of 2873 or,organisms tested, 60 were screen positive, but o nly 3 were confirmed to be ESBL producers. Cefpodoxime is believed to be a sensitive screen for ESBL production, but a more specific test is desirable . (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.
