Options to quit

This paper develops a theoretical model of a worker's decision problem unde r uncertainty about the optimal separation time, when holding a representat ive outside offer but facing fixed costs of quitting. Implications of the m odel's closed form solution are consistent with the quit behavior of worker s from a large Dutch company. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
