Abstract
A field study was conducted with summer groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) on its response to Irrigation schedules under different groundwater-table cond itions in-situ on clay-loam soil of Chiplima during 1992 and 1993. Number o f branches, plant height, number of matured pods, weight of pods, kernel, h aulm and pod yields responded favourably to increased I W : CPE ratio and l owering of groundwater-table from the surface. Significant interaction effe ct between irrigation and water-table condition was observed on plant heigh t, matured pods/ plant, haulm and pod yields. An irrigation schedule of 0.8 IW : CPE was suitable under shallow water-table (50 +/- 10 cm) condition w ith a pod yield of 17.7 q/ha, whereas under medium (90 +/- 10 cm) and deep (110 +/- 10 cm) water-table conditions, the yield was more (25.7 and 25.8 q /ha respectively) at higher IW : CPE ratio of 1.2. Increase in pod yield du e to applied water was more (89.7%) under deep water- table condition than that under shallow water-table (63.9%).
