Lipases are enzymes that hydrolyse lipids into triglycerides and fatty acid
s. Due to the unique environment around their active site, they are capable
of a wide range of racemic resolutions. This review article deals with the
role of Lipases in racemic resolutions with specific references to the ste
reospecificity, role of solvents and enzyme structure. (C) 2001 Society of
