Sarcoidosis has long been associated with mycobacterial infection, especial
ly with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, although a causal association has not b
een proven. Atypical mycobacteria have also been implicated in causing sarc
oidosis, but there is as yet no conclusive evidence. We report the activati
on of cutaneous sarcoidosis following infection with M. marinum, raising fu
rther questions about the role of these bacteria in causing this chronic gr
anulomatous disorder.
