The spectrum of barium was recorded in the 250-1240-Angstrom region on a va
riety of spectrographs. The sources used were a conventional triggered spar
k and a laser-produced plasma. The spectrum of seven-times ionized barium w
as investigated. Eight of thirteen levels reported earlier were confirmed.
In the present analysis we have established a total of 74 levels, 66 of the
m new, belonging to the 5s(2)5p, 5s(2)4f, 5p(3), 5s5p5d, 5s(2)6p, 5s(2)5f,
and 5s5p6s configurations in the odd-parity system and to the 5s5p(2), 5s(2
)5d, 5s5p4f, and 5s(2)6s configurations in the even-parity system. We carri
ed out least-squares fitted and Hartree-Fock calculations to interpret the
spectrum satisfactorily. One hundred thirty-nine lines have been classified
in this spectrum, of which one hundred thirty are newly classified lines.
