Abstract
Looking at the sun can cause focal burns to the retina. We prospectively fo llowed up all patients who presented to Eye Casualty of Leicester Royal Inf irmary having observed the solar eclipse of August, 1999. 45 patients atten ded, of whom 20 had visual symptoms and five had visible changes in the ret ina; four patients were still symptomatic after 7 months.
