Abstract
Mosquito-borne arboviruses are an important public health issue in Australi a. The alphaviruses Ross River and Barmah Forest virus are widespread and a ctive annually, and cause debilitating polyarthritis. The flaviviruses Murr ay Valley encephalitis, Kunjin and Japanese encephalitis virus are restrict ed in distribution and activity but may cause life-threatening illness, and dengue viruses are active in some areas.
