Abstract
A frequency chirped continuous wave laser beam incident upon a resonant, tw o-level atomic absorber is seen to evolve into a Jacobi elliptic pulse-trai n solution to the Maxwell-Bloch equations. Experimental pulse-train envelop es are found in good agreement with numerical and analytical predictions. ( C) 2000 Optical Society of America.
