Hyperthermal laser Doppler flowmetry is an evoked potential of the skin blo
od flow stimulated by heat which has advantages in assessment of early C-fi
bre dysfunction in comparison to previous methods. Considering the fact, th
at afferent and efferent C-fibres are involved in the regulation of microci
rculation, the skin blood flow regulation is investigated by means of laser
Doppler flowmetry. The microcirculation is stimulated by heat and the reac
tion of microcirculation is assessed as a measure for the function of affer
ent C-fibres and the efferent sympathetic fibers. This method yields result
s in close correlation with electrophysiologic tests, which is not achieved
with sudomotor function.
