Nephroblastoma - an uncommon tumour in horses

A tumour of the left kidney was found in a five-year-old quarterhorse geldi ng by clinical, laboratory, sonographic and laparoscopic examination. Three months after successfull surgical removal of the neoplasm (histologic diag nosis: nephroblastoma) multiple metastases were found in the abdominal cavi ty and the horse had to be euthanased. Possibilities and limits of the surg ical treatment of renal tumours and the problem of metastasis are discussed .
