Abstract
The critical speed for the nucleation of quantized vortices in the nonlinea r Schrodinger equation (NLS) for a flow around a disk in two spatial dimens ions is discussed in this paper. This problem is closely related to a compr essible flow around a disk. The flow is computed via a Janzen-Rayleigh expa nsion for low Mach number.
