Tw. Gorczyca et al., Inner-shell photoabsorption of Fe14+: Unimportance of correlation and relativistic effects - art. no. 010702, PHYS REV A, 6301(1), 2001, pp. 0702
We have performed a series of calculations of the photoabsorption cross sec
tion of Fe14+ near the 2p(-1) and 2s(-1) edges, within the framework of R-m
atrix theory. We find the unexpected result that the inclusion in the calcu
lation of such effects as the spin-orbit interaction and higher-order corre
lations leads to a mere redistribution of flux among the various final chan
nels, while the total convoluted photoabsorption cross section remains virt
ually unchanged. Hence, an appropriate minimal configuration LS coupling re
presentation can adequately describe inner-shell total photoabsorption cros
s sections, leading to a saving in computational effort by orders of magnit
ude compared to more elaborate calculations.
