Proof of a weak hyperbolization theorem

We sketch a new proof of a consequence of Thurston's Uniformization Theorem which asserts that atoroidal Haken 3-manifolds have word hyperbolic fundam ental groups. The proof uses the Combination Theorem of Bestvina and Feighn [1], a new quasiconvexity criterion and standard 3-manifold techniques.
