Abstract
Both the AMS radiocarbon technique and TL dating have been used to study th e age of organic-tempered pottery from Gasya, one of the earliest Neolithic sites in the Russian Far East. The results obtained are consistent with th e previous set of radiocarbon dates from the site, that were obtained for c harcoal, and show that the hypothesis that the earliest pottery from the Am ur River basin dates to before 10,000 BP (calendar years) is valid. The org anic-tempered pottery from the Russian Far East therefore looks promising f or future dating by the AMS radiocarbon and TL methods. (C) 2000 Elsevier S cience Ltd. All rights reserved.
