This paper presents the results of one- and two-photon absorption followed
by fluorescence for the Gd3+ ions doped in oxyfluoroborate glass. Fluoresce
nce from the levels lying near 60,000 cm(-1) has been reported. The lifetim
e of the high lying levels has also been measured. The concentration quench
ing and the mechanism responsible for energy transfer are discussed. (C) 20
